Sunday, June 10th — 7:30 p.m. — $20

Ev'Yan WhitneyExplore and celebrate your sexuality through the fun and sensual art of sexy self-portraiture. In this class, Ev’Yan Whitney — sexuality doula and sex writer on her blog — will teach you all the tricks and tools you’ll need to take bomb sensual selfies — not just for your lover’s pleasure, but for your pleasure, for your gaze, as a way of acknowledging and expressing the erotic in you.

In Sexting Myself, there will be a short, interactive lesson about sexy self-portraiture, then you’ll get to try your hand at a sexy selfie in a private, secluded area which Ev’Yan has prepped with props, lights, and a playlist to get you in the mood. You’ll also receive a zine in the class that will help you with poses, playing with certain props, and even photo editing recommendations that you can use after the class is over.

How to Be a Sex-Positive Medical Provider

Wednesday, April 25th — 7:30 p.m. — $15

Hunter RileyDo you work in healthcare and wish you had more resources for patients who have sex and relationship questions? Do you sometimes feel embarrassed talking to patients about their sex lives? Sex is a quality of life issue for most people, and knowing how to discuss the subject with patients is key — whether it’s someone needing a dilator set, a lubricant that doesn’t cause irritation, information on kink, etc.

In this informative class, Hunter Riley will go over how healthcare providers can help their patients feel more comfortable talking about sex, sexuality, relationships, gender and more. Small independent sex shops like She Bop can offer the support and guidance that so many people crave, but due to time constraints, aren’t always able to offer training programs for providers themselves. This workshop is geared specifically toward those in healthcare and helping professions.

We will talk about:

  • How prepared and comfortable do you feel right now to address client issues surrounding sexuality?
  • What biases or beliefs do you hold regarding sexuality, and how can you address them?
  • How do sex shops play a role in supporting people with their relationship and sex questions and challenges?

Hunter Riley is a sex educator, speaker and social media maven and manages the medical outreach program at Self Serve Toys in Albuquerque. She has presented and trained with different organizations including university hospitals, med schools, mental health provider conferences, nursing conferences, sexual assault nurse examiners, and more.

If you are a health care practitioner, let us know in the notes when you sign up for this class so we can make sure we can supply you with a bag of discount coupons and lube samples to share with your patients!

Love’s Not Color Blind: Race & Representation in Polyamorous Communities

Thursday, May 10th — 7:30 p.m. — $15

Kevin PattersonPolyamorous people and communities can appear, at first glance, to be very open and welcoming. However, in many cases, they don’t take the time to get introspective about why they may come across as unfriendly or inaccessible to people of color. Join Kevin Patterson, author of Love’s Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities, for this combined book signing, workshop, and discussion about what we can do to change that landscape.

This book-signing event comes bundled with a workshop on intersectional polyamory + a personally-driven discussion/Q&A on how race can impact polyamory on both individual and community levels. The book Love’s Not Color Blind will be 10% off the night of the class.

Kevin Patterson is an active member of the Philadelphia polyamory community. He’s been practicing ethical non-monogamy since 2002 after opening up a relationship that eventually became his marriage. In 2015, Kevin was inspired to start Poly Role Models, an interview series for people describing their experiences with polyamory. Poly Role Models is part of a drive and a desire to change the way our lives and communities are viewed. It is currently the most diverse and inclusive platform for polyamory available.

To continue the discussion of polyamorous representation, Kevin has extended the blog’s work into nationwide speaking engagements about how race and polyamory intersect. This has led to the writing of the book Love’s Not Color Blind.

Sex & Cannabis

Thursday, April 19th — 7:30 p.m. — $20
Class attendees must be 21+ to attend this event.

Amory JaneWith the legalization of cannabis on the West Coast, more and more folks are exploring how this popular plant may affect their sex lives. From decreasing chronic pain, to increasing sensitivity and arousal, to helping with relaxation and body image, using cannabis has helped many people enhance their sexual experiences.

You don’t have to be a stoner to attend this class, or even need to smoke. Amory Jane, M.A. is here to break it all down; in this workshop, she’ll share the current research on cannabis use, talk about differences between THC and CBD, and offer advice on which strains may work best for certain sexual issues. She will also help you figure out which cannabis products and methods of consumption (if any) might be a good fit for you and/or a partner, and she will dive into the real pros and cons of combining cannabis and sex.

Communication in the Bedroom: Asking For What You Want

Stella HarrisWednesday, April 11th — 7:30 p.m. — $15

Knowing what you want isn’t as easy as it sounds, and asking for it can be even trickier. Honesty puts us in a vulnerable place, opening us up to rejection or shame. People of all genders and sexualities have a lot of cultural baggage to work through, from messages implying that wanting sex or pleasure is slutty (and that that’s a bad thing) to ubiquitous sex tips that make it sound like we’re supposed to read our partners’ minds.

All of this sets us up for failure, and many people never take the chance to open a dialogue with their partner(s). But being able to talk about your wants and needs is the only way to get them met.

In this class we’ll talk about styles of communication, ways to put yourself and your partner at ease, and specific examples of tools and phrases to try. We’ll discuss how to start the conversation and how to incorporate communication into dirty talk. Not sure what to ask for? We’ll talk about some common fantasies you might want to try.

As always, there will be time for Q&A, and all genders and orientations are welcome.

Stella Harris is an author, educator, and coach who focuses on intimacy and connection. As a certified Intimacy Educator, she uses a variety of tools to guide and empower her clients and she teaches everything from pleasure anatomy, to communication skills, to kink and BDSM. She has presented classes for a variety of organizations including the Portland Leather Alliance, the Portland Academy of Sex Ed, Sex Positive Portland, and more, and has spoken at Portland State University, Reed College, and Pacific University. Stella is widely published in print and online, from erotic fiction to educational and lifestyle pieces on sex and kink.

Stella hopes to build a world where everyone has the tools and confidence to explore their sexuality safely and free of shame.
