(Anti) Racism & Ethical Non-Monogamy: Not Just WPS (White People Sh*t)

May 12, 2022 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm PDT

$15 – $25
Sexology Bae

This class will be held LIVE online via Zoom — you’ll receive an email with access information beforehand. The class will NOT be recorded. Registration deadline: 3 hours prior to class PST. No day-of cancellations.

Over the past few decades, Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM) has gone from a relatively unknown alternative lifestyle more commonly associated with kink communities to a better-known relationship orientation style that is gaining widespread approval. With visibility, though, does not always come understanding. Depictions of non-monogamy in traditional media as well as social media are still susceptible to influences from hetero-patriarchy and its accompanying -isms like racism, colorism, sexism, and fatphobia… ism.

Those of us who are both non-monogamous and non-white often play double duty as ambassadors for non-monogamy in our personal communities and ambassadors for BIPOC people in non-monogamous ones. This workshop with Sexology Bae is an opportunity to educate across communities, because clear language and definitions help reduce stigma. Within ENM communities, the onus is on those aligned with dominant identities to foster an inclusive community — and this starts with introspection and self-education.

This workshop is presented in hybrid format, combining lecture and open dialogue to foster an open environment for participants. Open to people of all races and genders.

Alexandria, better known in the sexual education world as Sexology Bae, is a sexuality writer and educator, mental health therapist and consultant, and sex/relationship coach born and raised in Louisiana and currently living in Houston, Texas. After years as a campus peer health and sex educator, Alexandria began blogging to share her experiences with the world after seeing a lack of young, Black, Southern voices talking openly about sex in digital spaces. Since the beginning of her mental health career she has added a clinical perspective to her sexuality education and firmly believes that advocacy for sexual freedom requires an abolitionist and pro-sex work politic. You can book her coaching or therapy services and find her personal writing on her blog, Twitter, and Instagram.

We’re offering 2 free class spots to folks with financial need; please fill out this form if you are interested. Two people will be chosen randomly and contacted at least 2 weeks prior to class to confirm.
