Polyamory: Moving Beyond Compulsory Monogamy
November 8, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm PST
This class will be held LIVE online via Zoom — Zoom links are sent out 3 days prior and then again 1 hour prior to start time. The class will be recorded and available for a limited time shortly following the class. Registration deadline: 1 hour prior to class Pacific. No day-of cancellations.
Where do your relationship expectations come from? The relationship escalator describes a default progression for what relationships “should” look like: date, get married to one person, have kids with that one person, and live happily ever after with that one person.
In this class with Michelle Hy, we’ll touch on different implicit norms and systems of oppression (e.g. patriarchy, capitalism, white supremacy, etc.) that affect how we approach and move through our interpersonal lives. You will interrogate and dismantle the ways compulsory monogamy affects your connections, learn about the relationship escalator and how to step off of it, and explore different ways to build and show up in your relationships.
This class is for anyone who wants to interrogate relationship norms, whether monogamous or non-monogamous.
Michelle Hy is from Portland, Oregon and runs the Instagram Polyamorous While Asian, which seeks to normalize non-monogamy and amplify the voices of fellow POC and other voices from underrepresented in non-monogamous communities. She works to educate from an intersectional lens, offers peer support sessions, and touches on topics related to body confidence, sex positivity, and more.
We partner with Bloom Community, a queer + sex-positive social and dating app! Follow She Bop on Bloom to see our upcoming events and connect with the community.
We’re offering a limited number of free class spots to folks with financial need; please fill out this form if you are interested. Recipients will be chosen based on need and contacted at least 3 days prior to class to confirm.
