Doing It Differently: How Sex and Disability Really Feels with Andrew Gurza

May 2, 2021 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm PDT

$15 – $25
Drew Gurza

This class will be held online via Zoom — you’ll receive an email with access information prior to the event. While classes are LIVE in nature and by default not recorded, some educators have chosen to offer recordings of their classes to pre-registered attendees; please inquire for specifics of this event. Registration deadline: 2:30 p.m. PST on the day of class. No day-of cancellations.

This class will introduce you to sex and disability in a way you may not have considered before. Usually if we talk about sex and disability, we tend to focus on the mechanics of sex and disability. “Do your genitals work?” “Can you have sex?” etc. These questions are super ableist and don’t go much deeper.

In this class, we will rework this question to ask “How does sex and disability feel?” In doing so, we will uncover the emotional aspects of sex and disability that often go overlooked. Andrew will give tips and tricks on how to ask the question, how to confront sexual ableism, and how to have hot, disabled sex.

Andrew Gurza is an award winning Disability Awareness Consultant and the Chief Disability Officer and Co-founder of Handi, a sextech company for and by disabled people. He uses he/they pronouns and identifies proudly as disabled. Their work has been featured on BBC, CBC, Daily Xtra, Gay Times UK, Huffington Post, The Advocate, Everyday Feminism, Mashable, Out.com, and several anthologies. Andrew has guested on a number of podcasts including Dan Savage’s Savage Love and Cameron Esposito’s Queery. He has spoken all over the world on sex, disability and what it means to be a Queer Cripple. He is the host of Disability After Dark: The Podcast Shining a Bright Light on Disability Stories and the creator of the viral hashtag #DisabledPeopleAreHot. You can connect with Andrew via social media @AndrewGurza_.

We’re offering 2 free class spots to folks with financial need; please fill out this form if you are interested. Two people will be chosen randomly and contacted at least 2 weeks prior to class to confirm.
