Love’s Not Color Blind: Race & Representation in Polyamorous Communities
Thursday, May 10th — 7:30 p.m. — $15
Polyamorous people and communities can appear, at first glance, to be very open and welcoming. However, in many cases, they don’t take the time to get introspective about why they may come across as unfriendly or inaccessible to people of color. Join Kevin Patterson, author of Love’s Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities, for this combined book signing, workshop, and discussion about what we can do to change that landscape.
This book-signing event comes bundled with a workshop on intersectional polyamory + a personally-driven discussion/Q&A on how race can impact polyamory on both individual and community levels. The book Love’s Not Color Blind will be 10% off the night of the class.
Kevin Patterson is an active member of the Philadelphia polyamory community. He’s been practicing ethical non-monogamy since 2002 after opening up a relationship that eventually became his marriage. In 2015, Kevin was inspired to start Poly Role Models, an interview series for people describing their experiences with polyamory. Poly Role Models is part of a drive and a desire to change the way our lives and communities are viewed. It is currently the most diverse and inclusive platform for polyamory available.
To continue the discussion of polyamorous representation, Kevin has extended the blog’s work into nationwide speaking engagements about how race and polyamory intersect. This has led to the writing of the book Love’s Not Color Blind.
