The annual day of love is right around the corner — and you know we have the goods to help you celebrate in style! Sometimes, though, it can be hard to find just the right gift to woo someone with, or the perfect thing to splurge on for yourself. So we’ve rounded up our top recommendations for sexy items to make this Valentine’s Day memorable (and pleasurable!).
Ever heard the expression “say it with a butt plug”? Us either, but now you can with the Naughty Candy Heart Butt Plug! Available in three pastel shades reminiscent of classic candy hearts, this plug has a comfortable, tapered shape and a heart-shaped base with a message molded right into the silicone. Messages range from romantic to kinky — the pink plug reads Be Mine, the yellow one implores Spank Me, and the purple version gets straight to the point: Do Me Now.
It vibrates, but it’s not a vibrator; it suctions, but it’s not a clit pump… the Womanizer is truly its own category of toy! Stimulation comes from the tip, which is designed to lightly suck on the clitoris. The Womanizer made an immediate impression when it hit the scene last year, and this new upgraded version features re-positioned buttons, several higher modes, and two interchangeable tips in different sizes. In its festive, red rose design, the Womanizer Pro W500 is an extravagant Valentine’s gift for the discerning clitoris in your life.
Massage candles make great gifts because they are essentially two products in one: a delicious-smelling candle and a luscious massage oil. With these Edible Massage Candles from local company Seagrape, you can add one more thing to that list: a lickable treat! Made with nourishing soy wax, shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin E, and various essential oils, this candle melts into a warm massage oil as it burns. Pour the oil directly onto the skin for a massage, then kiss or lick it off. This candle comes in two mouth-watering flavors: raspberry and chocolate.
Want to try rope bondage for V-Day? This kit from Seattle-based Twisted Monk has everything you need: one 30-foot piece of rope, two lengths of 10-foot rope, a pair of safety shears, a getting started DVD, and a quick reference safety card. The sturdy hemp rope is vegan and ethically-sourced, appreciated among aficionados for its rugged texture, natural scent, and ability to both hold knots and be swiftly untied.
There’s no doubt the Hot Octopuss Pulse II Duo is one of the most innovative toys for penises in years. Designed to encircle the penis and deliver powerful vibrations to the shaft and frenulum, it works its magic at any stage of arousal, from flaccid to erect. We love how the Pulse II Duo’s cupped shape encourages experimentation — try it hands-free and in a static position, or add lube and add movement. Enjoy it solo, or have a partner climb atop and control the vibration with the included remote!
Elegant and ergonomic, these gorgeous hand-sculpted dildos from Norweigan company Laid are as impressive to see as they are to use. Made of polished stone, they are firm, smooth, double-ended, and perfectly weighted for exquisite sensations. Choose D.2 (made of Absolute Black Granite) for intense G-spot play, or go with D.1 (made of Black Norwegian Moonstone) for a gentle and sensual experience. Ideal for anyone who appreciates uncommon and natural materials.
The original Bodywand Mini is a popular choice for folks wanting a small but powerful vibrator, and now it comes in fancy special edition patterns and color combinations! Measuring a mere 4″ long, the Bodywand Mini is compact and travel-friendly, with a range of vibration intensities adjusted via the control dial on its base. The soft, flexible head provides cushioning and pinpoint stimulation. Also, in case you forgot, rhinestones.
Need a little something to ignite sparks in the bedroom? Consider this bundle of Bedroom Bucks, each fancifully printed with a finance-themed sex act such as a “morning merger” and “complete lick-quidation.” Then, set the scene with Les Petits Bon Bon Rose Petal Explosion, a package of scented faux rose petals. Sprinkle them over the bed, bath tub, make a trail down the hall and toward the bedroom… go wild, they’re reusable!
German manufacturer Fun Factory started a revolution with their “pulsator” line — sex toys that mimic a back-and-forth thrusting motion. Now, in the Bi Stronic Fusion, they’ve combined the pulsating movement with traditional vibration! Sit back and let the Bi Stronic Fusion do all the work, as the shaft thrusts and the vibrating clitoral arm flutters against the clitoris and labia. Each portion of the toy is controlled separately, with 64 possible combinations of movement and vibration.
Celebrate the fabulous vulva with these two exceptional gifts! The Cunt Coloring Book has been in circulation since 1973, packed with over three dozen unique vulvas (drawn from life models) for you to color in. The beautiful vulva earrings are handmade by a local glass artist. Intricate and one-of-a-kind, they are made of Italian glass, with Swarovski Crystals and sterling silver wires.
What’s better than one vibrating bullet? Two, of course! The Bnear Classic is an inexpensive battery-operated toy that offers two times the stimulation. The silky bullets feel marvelous against the body, and the control pack offers five vibration modes to explore. Who will position the bullets, and who will man the control pack? So many possibilities for creative collaboration!
The most exciting vibrator release of the month is the Fun Factory Tiger G5, an updated version of the company’s popular G4 toy. This textured, perfectly-curved wonder has a revamped button interface and more pliable shaft. What didn’t change? It’s still jam-packed with power!
Our other new toys this month come from Tantus. They just released the Uncut #1 and Uncut #2, some of the world’s first body-safe uncircumcised dildos. Cast in the company’s signature dual-density silicone, these toys feel incredibly life-like! We also grabbed Tantus’ Vibrating Progressive Pleasure Beads (finally, vibrating silicone anal beads!) and Vibrating Super Soft C Ring.
We have so much new media for you to enjoy! From local Microcosm Publishing, Hot Pants: Do It Yourself Gynecology and Herbal Remedies contains all sorts of useful info on at-home remedies for cramps, PMS, and infections, while Consensuality: Navigating Feminism, Gender, and Boundaries Towards Loving Relationships details feminist lessons in healthy partnerships. We also picked up Best Bondage Erotica 2015, a curated selection of kinky stories, and My Life on the Swingset, a collection of personal essays about non-monogamy, sex toys, and other escapades.
Many porn additions to our shelves this month, as the top feminist porn directors of modern times continue cranking out excellent work! There’s Doing it Again, Vol. 2, the follow-up to Tobi Hill-Meyer’s trans-women-focused Doing It Ourselves, plus James Darling’s FTM Fucker, Volume 1 and Courtney Trouble’s Lesbian Curves 3 (you guessed it — the latest in their Lesbian Curves series). Renowned director Erika Lust even added another DVD to her popular series which brings anonymous fantasies to life: X Confessions Vol. 4.
Adding to our collection of locally-made bath products from Sea Grape, we now have their delicious-smelling massage candles. We also picked up Earthly Body’s Miracle Oil Tea Tree Shave Cream, which is infused with natural hemp seed oil.
In the 1970s, dildos were a point of contention in the feminist movement. A 1974 issue of Lesbian Tide warned: “anyone admitting to using a dildo today would probably be verbally castigated for enjoying ‘phallic’ pleasure.” Some activists thought dildos were too reminiscent of the patriarchy. Others felt that since dildos specifically didn’t require men, using them could actually be a subversive act.
The debate was more about what the dildo represented than precisely how it looked, but looks mattered too. Hyper-realistic vein-ridden dildos were the order of the day, and they tended to emit a strong chemical scent. It would still be a long time before the harms of plasticizers such as phthalates would come to light, but it was obvious that rubber was not the highest quality of dildo materials.
In her thought-provoking piece for Bitch on the early history of silicone dildos, Hallie Lieberman explores not just the feminist debate about the dildo, but also how dildo innovation in the ’70s came from an unlikely place: a humble man named Gosnell Duncan. After becoming paralyzed from the waist down in a workplace accident, Duncan began attending disability conferences and pondering how to enrich his (and others’) sex lives. Conference attendees were intrigued when he mentioned dildos as an option, and so began his journey into dildo-making.
Duncan had a hunch that he could improve upon the dildos of the time, because he was in talks with a chemist at General Electric to formulate the perfect formulation of silicone. Silicone was far more body-safe than rubber: it had no smell, no taste, and wouldn’t melt when exposed to heat — so it could be sterilized between partners. After 9 months of discussion, they discovered the ideal silicone and Duncan began making molds and manufacturing dildos in his basement.
Of course, manufacturing is only half the battle. Marketing was another hurdle. Duncan quickly found that placing ads in disability publications wasn’t enough to keep his business afloat. He renamed his company, from Paramount Therapeutic Products to Scorpio Products, and called up Dell Williams, founder of Eve’s Garden in NYC — the first ever feminist sex toy store.
But Eve’s Garden didn’t stock dildos. Only vibrators.
“Why did a dildo have to look like a cock at all, I asked Duncan,” Williams wrote in her memoir. “Did it have to have a well-defined, blushed-pink head, and blue veins in bas-relief?” Williams wasn’t sure that her customers would buy dildos, no matter what they looked like. But she was willing to find out. She sent out a customer survey asking her patrons what they would want in a dildo. Williams’s customers said that it wasn’t about size, it was about substance: They wanted “something not necessarily large, but definitely tapered. Not particularly wide but undulated at its midsection. Something pliable and easy to care for. Something in a pretty color.”
. . . When he poured his first vat of liquid silicone rubber into a penis-shaped mold, Duncan did not think of his dildo-making as a political act. He was seeking to solve a problem that he, and thousands of other disabled men and their lovers, faced. But in the 1970s dildos were imbued with politics, so to enter the dildo business was to make a political statement. Duncan could have refused to design nonrepresentational dildos in fanciful colors like blue and purple. But he chose to hear Williams out.
So Gosnell Duncan invented, for perhaps the first time, a dildo that represented what women actually wanted. It was called the Venus. Cast in chocolate brown or pink silicone, it resembled a finger — and it was made of a material that wasn’t toxic to the body.
Around that same time, in 1977, Good Vibrations opened in San Francisco. Founder Joani Blank only stocked 2-3 dildos and didn’t display them outright; they were hidden in a plain cabinet in the back. Customers were only shown the cabinet if they asked whether the shop carried “anything else.”
The dildos were brought out permanently in the early 1980s, when Susie Bright began working at the store. Bright was outspoken about dildos, writing in the inaugural edition of her lesbian erotica magazine On Our Backs, “ladies, the discreet, complete, and definitive information on dildos is this: penetration is as heterosexual as kissing!”
In small, feminist sex shops, the conversation around dildos was changing. They were coming out of the closet. And when Bright went to stock the store’s shelves, she knew just who to call: Gosnell Duncan.
Spanish dildo-makers BS Atelier make some of the most fun and colorful silicone dildos we’ve ever seen. Which one best fits the personality of your gift recipient (or yourself) — Rainbow, Vaca, Custom Lines, or perhaps one of the new ones with hearts on them that we’ll be getting in time for Valentine’s Day? Harness compatible and topped with curved and pronounced heads, these dildos can be excellent G-spot stimulators or prostate stimulators — whatever you want them to be!
Once you try the Jaz Motion, you’ll never go back to using pillows to prop yourself up during sex. This half-circle-shaped positioning pillow is made of furniture-grade polyurethane foam, which enables it to strike the perfect balance between comfort and support. Used with the flat side down, it can open up and enhance a variety of positions; used with the curved side down, it will gently rock back and forth with your motions. The Jaz Motion’s microsuede cover is removable and machine washable, and it even features a moisture-proof liner.
Cock rings can help a penis stay erect, add vibration for a partner, and even enhance orgasm. One of our latest cock rings is this adorable one from the Wonderland series. Not only is it made of silky 100% silicone, but the included bullet vibe has 10 (count ’em! 10!) functions.
An array of small things
Here’s an idea! What about combining several smaller gifts into a night of fun?
First, start with a card from Unusual Occasion — we love their straightforward format of a single word plus an illustration (such as “sex kitten” and “sweetie pie”). Then, pick out something for the sweet tooth: X-Rated Valentine Hearts or Risque Valentine Hearts come with phrases you won’t find on typical candy hearts. Follow that up with a Feather Tickler, then top the night off with the a massage, using the melted oil from a candle in the Seasonal Massage Candle Trio, which contains special edition romantic scents.
Now in its fourth generation, the remote-controlled We-Vibe remains a top choice for wearable couples’ vibrators. Meant to be worn vaginally during penetrative play, the We-Vibe 4 also makes an excellent discreet underwear vibe. Either way, it hugs the vulva, sending vibrations to the clitoris and the G-spot — and anything else that joins the penetration party. New in this edition of the toy? A re-imagined tighter and smaller shape, more power, and a more adjustable remote control equipped with 6 vibration modes.
Whether you already enjoy anal play or are simply interested in trying it out, we love these solid stainless steel butt plugs made by njoy. Stainless steel is both weighty and very receptive to temperature, and the Pure Plug comes in three sizes to suit every taste. Each has a tapered neck and a looped base that sits between the cheeks for comfortable wear. Want something more prostate-focused? Try the Pfun. Want something bigger? Check out the Pure Plug 2.0.
Need a toy for someone who loves new gadgets? The Stronic Drei is part of Fun Factory’s Pulsator line, arguably one of the most innovative sex toy lines to be released in recent years. Rather than vibrating like other toys, Pulsators thrust, in a motion that is both incredibly unique and highly stimulating for those who like the sensation of movement. The rechargeable Stronic Drei is the latest shape in the line, featuring a ribbed shaft and curved tip for added sensation.
An erotic DVD
It’s hard to pick just one DVD, since tastes vary so much from person to person. But we can tell you what’s new an exciting in the world of hot videos!
After taking anonymous sex fantasy submissions on her site X Confessions, erotic filmmaker Erika Lust turned them into explicit short films. X Confessions, which just came out, showcases the first 10 short films, with tantalizing titles such as “Hold Me So Tight it Hurts,” “I Pegged My Boyfriend,” and “A Blowjob is Always a Great Last Minute Gift Idea,” and themes including group sex, roleplay, erotic games, and bondage.
Finally! An attachment that harnesses the power of a wand-style vibrator and concentrates it on the penis! This stretchy TPR sleeve will fit over the head of any large wand vibrator, such as the Magic Wand or Bodywand Original, transmitting intense vibration as well as texture to the penis that slides into it. Bonus: the transparent material gives you a peek at the action!
Need a hefty double-ended dildo? Look no further than the Fun Factory Sonic. Made of silky 100% silicone and super easy to clean, it is incredibly flexible, long enough to reach all the good spots, and best of all — meant to be shared. Now the question is, who gets the smaller end and who wants the bigger more bulbous end?
The majority of sex toys we carry are made of pure silicone, so it’s no surprise we have a special place in our hearts for it. It’s an extremely versatile material, and because it can be soft, silicone is ideal for anal beads, double-ended dildos, packers, and any time a more yielding material is desired. Gotta love that!
Solid silicone toys (like dildos) are made by pouring liquid silicone into a mold, letting it set, prying it out of the mold (beware the suction!), and trimming the excess silicone bits. Other toys, like vibrators, are coated in silicone. But the really important part comes before the production line, when a company decides to use 100% medical-grade silicone — the purest of the pure — rather than settling for a cheaper and less body-safe material.
Speaking of cheap materials, watch out for mislabeled toys at shops that don’t carefully curate their selection. The sex toy industry is unregulated, and any manufacturer can slap the words “100% silicone” or “phthalate-free” on their packaging without ever having to prove such a claim. That’s why it’s so important to shop from a place like us that carries only body-safe toys.
We previously highlighted glass and why it rocks as a sex toy material, and now it’s time to discuss pure silicone. Here are our top reasons for loving silicone sex toys!
Silicone is the only soft sex toy material that is totally non-porous. Unfortunately, a lot of toxic toys are still being produced, many containing phthalates (we don’t carry any of them). Unsafe materials like jelly can degrade, melt, off-gas, harbor bacteria, and even cause allergic reactions. Silicone, which is phthalate-free and non-porous, will do nothing of the sort. If you want a body-safe sex toy with some squish to it, silicone is the material you want.
Tons of toys are made out of it. Really, practically any type of toy! A plethora of dildos, vibrators, anal toys, prostate toys, kegel exercisors, vibrator attachments, ball gags, STP devices, and even the Moon Cup are made of silicone. So if you’re on the hunt for a silicone toy, the selection is vast — more vast than with any other body-safe material.
It comes in many formulations. Unlike other materials which tend to have the same texture and rigidity across the board (sorry, stainless steel, we know you can’t help it!), silicone varies quite a bit from company to company. Luxury vibrator manufacturers such as LELO, Jimmyjane, and Je Joue use silicone that is silky and firm to the touch, while Fun Factory vibrators have more cushion and a more matte texture.
Dildo makers vary in their silicone formulations as well. Vixen Creations‘ dildos are the squishiest, while Tantus and Happy Valley dildos have less give. Some silicone toys, like the Harmony and Silk, have a highly glossy sheen that makes for super smooth insertion and thrusting. Matte toys, like the Share, create more friction and drag.
Additionally, a couple companies make dual-density silicone: Tantus’ O2 and Vixen Creations’ VixSkin. These toys are characterized by a softer outer layer and a hard inner core (two different formulations of silicone), giving them stability coupled with a plush feel. These are some of the most realistic toys out there.
Silicone toys are colorful! What’s your favorite color? There’s likely a silicone sex toy out there for you (yes, even if your answer was “atomic orange” or “bright yellow“). Fun Factory in particular is known for its adventurous and whimsical color choices. Vixen Creations has several skin tones, as well as neon options. But silicone isn’t limited to solid colors. Vamp and Happy Valley toys, for instance, are swirled.
Silicone is odorless and flavorless. While not an asset particular to silicone, this comes into play with silicone because it’s the most likely material to be getting up close and personal with a mouth and nose. In effect, giving a blowjob to a silicone strap-on will not leave you with a rubbery taste in your mouth or a rancid smell lingering in your nostrils (toxic toys, on the other hand, will). That’s why the silicone ball gag works so well!
You can clean them a multitude of ways. Medical-grade silicone can withstand very high temperatures. So, just like a pure silicone baking pan, a silicone toy (with no mechanical parts) can be put in the dishwasher or even just boiled for 5-10 minutes to sterilize. A hand wash with warm water and antibacterial soap works too, or you can use a 10% bleach, 90% water solution. Whichever works for you!
Silicone toys and harnesses go together like PB&J. The majority of harness–compatible dildos are made of silicone, since other body-safe materials tend to be very stiff and not exactly easy to wield in a harness. So, if you’re looking for a dildo to use during strap-on play, you’ll likely be in the market for a silicone one. Just make sure the dildo will fit comfortably through the O-ring in your harness of choice!
Have any more questions about silicone sex toys? Let us know! And as always, come down to the shop to squeeze and caress our silicone toys to feel the differences for yourself.
Is it any surprise we’re big fans of Valentine’s Day? Of course, we believe in love and pleasure all year round, but it’s nice to have a day set aside for celebrating in style. In fact, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to scout out something new for your bedroom adventures.
Up until now, there was a cupcake-shaped hole in the sex toy industry. Now it has been filled with a vibrator that really looks good enough to eat! The silicone and ABS plastic Cupcake is true to the size of your average cupcake, but equipped with a discreet button on the bottom that takes you through two speeds and three pulsation patterns. It even comes in an adorable retro tin, perfect for gift-giving and future storage!
The future is here — our hands and sex toys are colliding! There have been various finger vibes before, but the Hello Touch takes things to a new level with two silicone pods that attach to your fingertips and blend seamlessly into your play. Try them on the nipples, clitoris, penis — anywhere that you’d normally stroke or squeeze. Great for folks who want to add that extra buzz to manual stimulation. Plus, the whole thing is waterproof!
The ridiculously cute Tenga Lover’s Egg is a special edition version of the very popular Tenga Egg. Tenga Eggs are self-contained, stretchy pleasure sleeves that each come with a pouch of lube. This sleeve has a special heart inner texture unlike any other egg before it, and a heart-patterned casing to match. There’s a sense of playfulness and spontaneity about Tenga Eggs, making them perfect for solo or partner play.
An underwear-style harness with some added flair, Sasha comes in black or red and is decorated with several bows, ruching on the backside, and removable garters. Made of nylon and spandex, this harness is as comfortable as it is sexy — and it’s machine-washable. The stretchy O-ring can accommodate a variety of dildos, and two little pockets on the inside of the undies can hold bullet vibes for added stimulation to the wearer. Ooh la la!
Aside from its cute heart-shaped tip, the Luv Your Body Massager is a wonderfully ergonomic vibe with many talents. It’s great for adding some extra reach during sex or masturbation, or it can be used to massage tense muscles throughout your body (without twisting yourself into a pretzel to do so!). It’s even waterproof, so a relaxing bath is another option for fun. The Luv Your Body Massager has five speeds and… did we mention it’s heart-shaped?
2013 erotica collection
Whatever type of erotica strikes your (or your partner’s) fancy, these are the best that of the year: Best Erotic Romance 2013, Best Lesbian Erotica 2013, and Best Women’s Erotica 2013. The caliber of the authors in these volumes is so high, you’ll be sure to find stories that are both impeccably-written and incredibly steamy. Of course, we have tons of other erotica collections if you want, for instance, hotel sex stories or stories of female submission.
Known for making discreet toys that masquerade as innocuous items, Incoqnito has struck once again with their Leather Handcuffs. Wear these cuffs on one wrist and they’ll appear to be nothing more than a stylish set of leather bracelets; but they convert easily when you’d rather use them for a more scandalous purpose. Wherever you wear them out, you’re bound to spend your time anticipating what will come later.
There’s nothing else quite like the recently-released Evi. It’s a kegel toy, but that’s not all — it also stimulates the G-spot and clitoris during use. As the wearer clenches their PC muscles around Evi, the toy rocks forward and back, pressing into the clitoris and stroking the G-spot. Kegel exercises are beneficial in several ways, since toned PC muscles can lead to stronger orgasms, enhanced bladder control, and improved pregnancy. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, really.
We were pretty excited when one of our favorite lube companies, Sliquid, came out with a massage oil. These oils come in four varieties — including an unscented version! — each meant to impart certain characteristics when used (such as vitality, tranquility, and sensuality). They’re made with a handful of naturally occurring nut and seed oils and organic botanicals. Pair the oil with a massage stone, massage deck (see below!), or massage DVD to jumpstart your massage skills.
Sexy card decks!
Sex-themed card decks are a quick and easy way to turn up the heat and get some new ideas. We carry several different types: Light My Fire: Sexy Requests is a pack of multiple-choice invitations; The Gay Sex Deck has tips, tricks, and positions for gay men; The Fantasy Sex Deck features erotic roleplaying ideas; and the Erotic Massage Deck is chock full of massage techniques, both ancient and modern.
Cock rings are an excellent addition to penetrative sex of any sort, and the Mio is a luxurious choice. Only a few cock rings on the market are rechargeable, and Mio is one of them. It is also made of 100% silicone and features 7 vibration patterns with 5 power levels each. Stretch it onto a penis or dildo to provide clitoral, scrotal, or perineum stimulation, depending on positioning and the parties involved!
We bet you’ve never seen a sex toy quite like this one! But that’s precisely what makes the New Wave such a versatile double-ended dildo. Made of 100% silicone and super easy to clean, it is made to be shared. The “middle wave” adds extra external stimulation for each partner. Now the question is, who gets the textured end and who wants the smoother end?
Do you or your partner have a sweet tooth — and a somewhat profane sense of humor? Then you’ll definitely like X-Rated Valentine Hearts and the I Fucking Love You Candy Heart Box. Both contain candy hearts that look exactly like regular conversation hearts from afar, but once you read their messages, you’ll notice the difference. We love them!
We picked up three new dildos from Happy Valley this month: Wilde, Fuze Tango, and Jet. Wilde is based on the design of Harmony, but a bit longer and thicker. The Fuze Tango is just like the double-ended Tango, only it’s made of shiny black silicone. Jet is a semi-realistic dildo with balls that comes in either blue or purple. What do these toys have in common? They’re all great for harness and partner play!
Our newest vibe is Zizo, a firm silicone G-spotter. Its sensual shape is smooth and comfortable, and its 12 vibration modes are both powerful and near-silent.
For your butt, we have the new Aneros Helix Syn. Based on the design of the super-popular Aneros Helix, the Syn is coated in silky silicone, but still retains the rigidity that makes the original such a superb prostate massager.
When you’re a young queer person, you need all the guidance you can get. That’s why we picked up Queer: The Ultimate Guide for LGBT Teens. This book discusses coming out, dating, and how to combat homophobia, along with a plethora of personal stories from the authors and lessons on queer history. If there’s a queer teen in your life, definitely pick this one up for them.
We mentioned in last month’s new product round-up that Aslan Leather does not forget about vegans, and that remains true with their slick Rubber Collar and Rubber Cuffs. Explore your kinky side with these sexy restraints featuring heavy welded rings and buckles.
Bonus! We now have a “New Arrivals” section on our site that you can check whenever you’re wondering what’s fresh. We sometimes announce new products on Facebook and Twitter throughout the month as well.
Despite furious back-and-forth debates in the media, we know that the G-spot is not the elusive and impossible thing it is made out to be, nor is it something that only a few lucky folks have. Everyone with a vagina has a G-spot, it’s just that the G-spot is a very individualized thing — people tend to have their own particular ways of stimulating it.
Located 1-3 inches inside the vagina on the upper vaginal wall, the G-spot is an area of spongy erectile tissue that surrounds the urethral opening. Its very technical name is the urethral sponge, but its street name (which we think is way cooler) comes from the German gynecologist who first wrote about it — Ernest Grafenberg.
The urethral sponge is not on the surface of the vaginal wall itself, but directly behind it; therefore, it must be coaxed out to play. When a person becomes aroused, the G-spot’s dense tissue swells, becoming thicker and more easily felt. Most G-spots respond best to pressure rather than a light touch, which is why G-spot toys are often curved at the tip.
Sex toys are especially awesome for G-spot stimulation because they are longer and firmer than fingers, plus they’re more ergonomic (read: no more tired wrists)! But how do you choose between the many options out there, and how can you get the most out of the toy you pick? Read on!
Selecting the right toy
Above all, you want to choose something that will be comfortable to use. If you are new to G-spot stimulation, you may want a thinner toy or something inexpensive. The Bswish Bgee, Rebel Ticker, and G Slim Satin Touch are all $30 and under, and no more than 1 1/4″ in diameter. For higher budgets, the OhMiBod Lovelife Cuddle, Vixen Mistress, and Happy Valley Perk are also excellent for beginners.
A firm, unyielding material — such as glass, metal, wood, stone, or plastic — is always a good choice for G-spot stimulation, due to the amount of pressure the G-spot requires. Glass and stone dildos like the Simply Blown G-Glass, Laid D.2, and Standard Glass Dildo provide a flawlessly smooth sensation along with some extra weightiness. Wooden dildos like the Fling and Seduction are lighter, but deliciously rigid, with a unique texture. The stainless steel njoy Pure Wand and Fun Wand are the heaviest choice, ensuring that their weight contributes to the intensity of the stimulation. Some silicone toys, like the LELO Gigi 2 and Jimmyjane Form 6, are also quite firm.
Some folks like vibrations against their G-spot, feeling that vibrations help them pinpoint the area more easily. Others find vibrations distracting, or they just prefer to thrust with a non-vibrating toy. Vibration lovers should check out the LELO Mona 2, We-Vibe Rave, and Jopen Key Comet II, three great rechargeable options, or the less expensive battery-operated PicoBong Moka. On the other hand, non-vibrating toys like the LELO Ella, New York Toy Collective Shilo, and Vamp Jezebel allow you to thrust away vibration-free. An in-between option would be the Good Vibes Dotted Delight, which comes with mini bullets to add light vibration if desired.
A lot of folks associate an extreme curve with ideal G-spot toys, but that isn’t necessarily true. Even toys with a gentle curve, or toys with just a pronounced head, can stimulate the G-spot — it all depends on the way the toy is manipulated during use, and how sensitive a person is to G-spot stimulation. Many of Vixen’s dual-density dildos are formidable G-spot toys, especially if you’re into realistic dildos.
Do you prefer your G-spot stimulation with a side of clitoral stimulation? There are a few dual stimulation toys with curved shafts, like the LELO Ina and PicoBong Kaya. There’s also the We-Vibe 4 Plus, a C-shaped vibe for those who prefer a rubbing or rocking motion rather than an in-and-out one. The We-Vibe 4 is slim enough that it can also be used during sex.
Experts agree that adding clitoral stimulation to the mix can enhance the G-spot sensations, but that doesn’t mean you have to have one toy doing both. There are plenty of mini vibes small enough to use alongside a G-spotting insertable.
A few tips for G-spot exploration
G-spot stimulation produces a very intense and unique sensation, and it can sometimes feel like the urge to pee. This makes sense, because putting pressure on the G-spot stimulates the urethra, sending a signal to your brain that you need to pee. Although this is just a false alarm, you may want to go to the bathroom first for extra reassurance.
Begin by turning yourself on with some erotica, porn, foreplay, or clitoral stimulation. The more aroused you are, the more sensitive your G-spot will become, so don’t rush through this part! You may even want to have an orgasm first to really get yourself revved up. Once you feel ready, drizzle some lube on your G-spot toy and insert it with the curve pointed toward your belly button. The G-spot is right behind the pubic bone, only 1-3 inches inside the vagina, so you shouldn’t have to go very far.
Now it’s time to experiment! Everyone’s G-spot responds to stimulation differently, so you should try all kinds of techniques: rocking, thrusting, general pressure, circles, a side-to-side windshield motion… or any combination thereof. Try your hand at a range of motions and different degrees of pressure. If your toy vibrates, play around with different modes, but also try the toy with vibrations turned off.
Of course, if something feels good, keep doing it! A G-spot orgasm could be in the cards, or you may experience ejaculation or squirting — a release of non-urine fluid from the urethra. This is totally normal, but you may want a towel underneath you for added protection!
Don’t worry if you don’t experience great pleasure at first. G-spot stimulation involves a lot of trial and error. Most importantly, relax and take your time.
Taking it to the next level
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to exploring the G-spot. If you’re a G-spot connoisseur and able to handle some significant girth, there are some advanced G-spotting implements such as the Vixen Randy, njoy Eleven, or Fun Factory Big Boss. If you like Hitachi-level vibrations, the Gee Whiz and Gee Whizzard attachments can give you that kind of power internally. There’s also a G-spotting, dual stimulation attachment for the Vibratex Mystic Wand.
For a super comprehensive G-spotting guide, we suggest Tristan Taormino’s book The Secrets of the Great G-Spot Orgasms and Female Ejaculation, Violet Blue’s The Smart Girl’s Guide to the G-Spot, or Deborah Sundahl’s Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot. If you’re a visual learner or just like to watch people get it on, Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to the G-Spot should strike your fancy.
We are pleased to introduce the Pocket Toyfriends! These new additions to the Toyfriends line are cute, small, and inexpensive. We love that they come in such a nice array of colors — to match anyone’s preference and style.
Speaking of colors, it’s always exciting to see Fun Factory’s new releases because their colors are always so vibrant, and their shapes so interesting! Their latest toys are the Boosty, Sonic, and New Wave. Boosty is an adorable, bubbly butt plug just a step up in size from their popular Bootie plug, but with the same exceptionally comfortable base. The Sonic and New Wave are unique double-ended dildos that curve and ripple to provide tons of stimulation to one person or two.
Three more dildos have sprouted up on our dildo table this month, all of them on the realistic spectrum. The silicone Vixen Creations Woody and Large Realistic Bent are pretty reminiscent of penises, except they come in purple and black! Meanwhile, the Tantus Adam O2 comes in black as well as a couple skin tones, and is made out of Tantus’ amazing dual-density silicone.
One of our very favorite kegel exercisers, the LELO Luna Beads system, now has a slightly-smaller sibling: the Luna Beads Mini! The Luna Beads Mini are for folks experienced in kegel exercising and/or those who have yet to go through childbirth. As always, they are great fun to wear around; movement makes the inner balls roll around and lightly “vibrate” internally.
Although Aslan Leather makes a ton of leather items (obviously!), they have not forgotten about vegans! Their aptly-named Simple Harness is made of soft nylon webbing, and with no metal parts, it’s fully machine washable! This extremely versatile harness comes in pink or black and can be worn as a two strap or in G-string style.
The hot new queer porn film of the moment is Billy Castro’s Naughty Squirters. Directed by and starring trans heartthrob Billy Castro, it follows him as he has his way with several sexy femmes proficient in the art of squirting.
Last month we picked up the Fenis stand-to-pee device, and now we have its more masculine counterpart, Mr. Fenis! Mr. Fenis has a realistic shape, comes in four different skin tones, and performs just as valiantly at directing the flow.
Oh, and remember the Sliquid Organics Massage Oil we mentioned last month? We’ve added the three scented versions — Mandarin Basil, Coconut Lime Verbena, and Tahitian Vanilla — in addition to the unscented. Come to the shop to give them a sniff!
We are super excited about the release of Spareparts Hardwear’s Tomboi, a true game-changer for comfortable and versatile harnesses. The Tomboi performs valiantly however you use it — as underwear, for packing, for pack and play, and of course, for straight-up awesome sex. Its signature elastic O-ring can hold a variety of sizes of dildo, plus it has two internal pockets to hold mini vibes. The Tomboi also comes in a Modal/Spandex version.
The Fenis, pictured here in a cute and colorful pile, is a cool new stand-to pee device that comes to us all the way from Nova Scotia, Canada. Made of 100% silicone, it is easily folded and unfolded, so it can travel with you everywhere.
Buck Angel has done it again with Sexing the Transman XXX, an educational but hardcore film that gives trans men a space to speak about and explore their sexuality in intimate jack-off scenes. It won “Most Tantalizing Trans Film” at the 2012 Feminist Porn Awards!
That adorable pipsqueak to the right is the Bodywand Mini Massager. It’s a mere 4″ long, but has a surprising amount of power! It comes in several colors, all adorned with little rhinestones at the base. And it’s obviously quite portable!
Have you been wanting to try Vixen Creations’s dual-density VixSkin silicone, but would rather have it in a bright color and less realistic shape? Then you’ll be happy to hear about Raquel, Vixen’s only non-realistic VixSkin dildo. Its plush, G-spotting head and shimmery pink color are fantastic.
Sometimes all you want is a simple massage without an overpoweringly scented massage oil, which is why we picked up Sliquid’s Organics Massage Oil in its unscented version. This oil is a blend of naturally occurring nut and seed oils, combined with certified organic botanicals. The scented options will arrive in the shop very soon as well!
And lastly, check out the sassy and adorable Foulmouth greeting cards! Manufactured start to finish in artist Anna Diem’s living room in San Francisco, they feature colorful paintings and a glorious sense of humor. For example, one card features a painting of a house getting rained on with the phrase “I wanna be inside you” on the inside. We love it!
